Shadowpaw had been expecting this. Sighing, the apprentice turned and padded silently toward the Leader's Den, not even bothering to drop the mouse she was planning on eating. Her long bushy black tail dragged on the stone ground behind her.
Once at the entrance, the she-cat starred into Swiftriver's ice like eyes. It was slightly creepy, seeing only their blue color, though no other part of her mentor. Shadowpaw's insides burned with hatred of the tom. HE was the one who got her in trouble, and HE was the one she would have to deal with for the next six moons. After a few moments of preparing herself, the apprentice disappeared into the tunnel leading into the den.
----------
Duskstar stared blankly at the dull yellow eyes of his daughter as she came in. They seemed fearful. "Good." Thought the leader, stub of a tail twitching in a rhythm with his whiskers, "She should be afraid." He waited for the black she-cat to sit down before speaking,
"Swiftriver has told me you have been disrespecting him."
Shadowpaw hung her head but stayed silent. It seemed as though she couldn't look Duskstar in the eye.
The leader blinked in surprise as his daughter didn't even attempt to defend herself. As a kit she could ALWAYS come up with a story as to why she had misbehaved, no matter how hard it would have seemed to make an excuse. Though he was proud that Shadowpaw was finally maturing, he was still disappointed that she hadn't learned to treat her mentor with respect. But before the tom could utter another word, Shadowpaw lifted her head.
"I'm really sorry Duskstar. I know I should have treated Swiftriver better. He knows more than I do, and would have taught me a lot had I listened." She seemed proud to have admitted her wrongdoings as her dull yellow eyes met her father's.
Duskstar was even more surprised when she apologized without being told, but had no intention of going easy on her. The tom eyed the mouse that Shadowpaw had near her paws.
"Thank you for saying that." He meowed, "You are to return that to the fresh kill pile, and for the next few days will be doing apprentice duties instead of training." While speaking Duskstar thrust his muzzle toward the mouse, and nodded in dismissal.
-------------------------
Shadowpaw listened to her punishment, shame filling her eyes as she gazed at the plump mouse at her paws. Her stomach growled as the pleasant aroma met her nose, and she picked it up by the tail, leaving the den, her tail still dragging on the ground.

Swiftriver dipped his slender, black head to his leader silently watching his apprentice slink, tail dragging on the ground behind her dark pelt. Hoping that Duskstar had npthing else to say to him Swiftriver took his leave quickly and quietly behind Shadowpaw. Almost as if he hadn't been there in the first place.
Scoping the clearing hopefully for something to do it seemed that no one else seemed to be awakening yet and not even the Dawn Patrol had came back yet. Sighing he tried to figure something to do besides go out and hunt but drew a blank and lowered his head. Stalking over in his fluid gait he stalked over to the entrance.
This was going to be a long day in fact the next few days was probably going to be just as much torture to him as it was going to be for Shadowpaw. His glassy blue gaze already was dulled with boredom and annoyance.

Duskstar rested his head on dark tabby paws before getting up almost as immediately as he sat. Stub of a tail twitched silently. "I should take Pebblepaw out for training, now that I think about it..." He thought, but sat down as soon as he thought it, "I should let her sleep in more." Again the tom stood up, dull yellow eyes thoughtful, "Now your just making excuses not to see her, mousebrain!"
Duskstar stood up guiltily and stretched, purposely taking his time, silently arguing with himself. It was even on a simple matter of which part of training to start with; fighting or hunting. If they started with hunting, she might think he was going easy on her, as he always thought the crouches where easier to remember than battle moves. Then again if he started with fighting, she might still be sore from seeing the territory yesterday. After all, kits didn't get all that much excessive in one day, and running around StoneClan lands is usually very hard for them. Duskstar sighed, he knew he was over thinking everything, and knew it was all an excuse to simply not see his daughter today. Or tomorrow, for that matter.
Taking a deep breath, the leader stepped out into the Stone Clearing, a cold morning chill greeting him. The Dawn Patrol still hadn't arrived back, and although Swiftriver's early training was still extreme, waking up Pebblepaw now wasn't exactly letting her sleep in. Once again Duskstar second guessed himself, wondering if he should wait just a little bit longer. Then, with a tremendous amount of willpower, he started toward the apprentice's den, padding inside. Luckily, unlike Swiftriver, he didn't have to worry about being quiet or avoiding sleeping bodies, seeing as Pebblepaw was the only one left in the den. "The others must have gone on the Dawn Patrol..."
Duskstar walked noisily across the small piles of moss, gently poking his daughter in the side. Hopefully this would wake her up, because otherwise he had no idea of what to say. This way the leader had time to think.

Abnormally large light gray paws twitched as she dreamed. She could've been dreaming of chasing a rabbit or something like that, what any apprentice that was anxious to start training would dream about. Not her however, she was frightened of the thought of training with her father. What if she failed him?
Really she was dreaming of an unknown force chasing her across some mountain somewhere, her fear she couldn't quite figure out though. It was cold and thoughtless, a fear so dry and there that that scared her itself. It was as if she had known the thing that chased her and she was certain of her fear of it, yet at the same tim uncertainty and unknown feelings swam below that.
Jolting awake, breathing hard and shallow she stared around wildly. Perhaps the poke of her side had awoken her but Pebblepaw knew it was the growing fear in her heart. Calming herself quickly she closed her eyes trying to clear the fear from them. When she opened them she looked up at Duskstar with round eyes, even though dread was deep in her heart and probably visable in her gaze she couldn't help but be excited of this.
"Good Morning, Duskstar." She spoke quietly yet firmly, sitting up she wrapped her long tail around her paws and fought the erge to look down at them, instead she gazed at his dull yellow eyes.

Duskstar watched in silence as his daughter woke up, dull yellow eyes resting calmly on her as she jolted, breathing hard. It was several seconds after the leader had jabbed her, so had she even woken up because of him? After gazing for a few more moments the tom leaned forward and brushed muzzles with her, "Good morning!" He said cheerfully, though on the inside he was uneasy. Maybe it WASN'T such a good idea to give himself her as an apprentice. Maybe she should have been given to Breezewhisper or a senior warrior instead.
Repressing a sigh Duskstar started out of the den, stub of a tail twitching for Pebblepaw to come along. Now it was back to the fighting or hunting decision. Passing the fresh kill pile the leader noticed Shadowpaw sulking near the nursery, a few kits appearing to try and cheer her up. He shook his head slightly but didn't pause, starting through the dark twists and turns of the StoneClan tunnel. After a maze of cavern walls, Duskstar burst into the open, gazing up at the sky. It was a semi clear day, with a few clouds, and the sun only just barely over the horizon. The tom took a deep breath of fresh air before starting toward the Sharp Stones.
