It seemed like outside of camp was the only place anyone could get any peace, easpecially the bangle-striped she-cat weaving through the blackened forest. In camp there were cats that hated her or didn't care but they all had one thing in common. They didn't trust her because she didn't have the right name and she wasn't born into the clan. It was so infuriating! Copper growled in frustration as she paced through the forest. Her father had been a SilentClanner but that didn't help her since he had deserted the clan to be with Copper's mother. Only StarClan knew what had become of them. Right now though, Copper didn't care. It was their fault she had to fight so hard anyway.
Why didn't she just leave? Good question. Sometimes Copper wasn't sure, other times the answer was screaming at her as plain as the nose on her face. Right now was one of the times she didn't know. It had been another snarling match between her and a clanmate. Another sharp word and glare of disapproval from Fadingstar. Another batch of glares as she had stormed out of camp to blow some steam. Another warning. Another point for them and another screwup for her. It wasn't fair. Just because they were born in the right place they could look down on her and she just had to fight and scavenge. They didn't trust her, none of them. Only Owlgaze had been her friend and he was dead at the price of her becoming a warrior.
"Why do they think they're so much better?" Copper growled to herself, padding toward a small rippling creek that cut through the forest. Sitting on the bank the young huntress stared down at her dim reflection, barely visible in the gloom of the Black Forest. "What makes them so much better?"
Tail lashing the tiger-like she-cat glared at her reflection, ignoring the rustling of undergrowth as prey moved through it. In a flash, Copper lashed out at her reflection with a furious swipe causing the splash to echo through the quiet. Rising to her paws, Copper prepared to storm away again until a louder rustling announced the arrival of a cat.
